Tips to Make Your Brand Stick

Who are you, really?

It can be easy to introduce ourselves with confidence when we know who we are. Think about the last time you met someone and shared a few details about your life. You might have shared:

  • Your name
  • Your job title
  • Where you live
  • Where you grew up
  • A favorite hobby
  • A recent book you read
  • News about an upcoming job

The list could go on and on, and that’s a good thing. When we dive into who we are and what makes us tick—our likes and dislikes, passion projects, hobbies, or daily routines—we show who we really are. It’s the details that paint a full picture and help others get to know us.

So why is it that branding can sometimes feel so hard?

When we build a brand, we have to fill in similar details. We think about our company’s beliefs, values, and purpose. We think about our company’s location and role in its community or industry. What are we here to do? What is our company here to do?

That’s right, branding can be just like building your own personality. Who you are helps you determine how you act in certain situations, which opportunities you seek out, and how you spend your free time.

So, go ahead and think of your brand as a person. If you do, it may help you get over whatever mental roadblocks are keeping you from filling in all the details. That way, you will have a complete and easy understanding of your company.

Once you know the story of your brand, it will be easier to introduce it to prospective clients—and easier for you to grow your business.
